There’s more than the tides rising in Prince Rupert …

Salt Water is the essence of life on the north coast, and symbolizes two of the essential three ingredients in traditional bread making – grain, water and salt – brought to life by natural fermentation through the skilled hands of the craft baker.
Offering a wide array of natural hearth baked breads, signature pies and pastries showcasing ingredients from our forests, seas, and gardens, Salt Water Bakery will change the way you think about bread and baked goods in Prince Rupert.
Our bright, open concept bakeshop in eclectic Cow Bay will be a place to linger, and watch the bakers work their craft while enjoying the tastes and aromas of a fresh new bakery experience.
We look forward to breaking bread with you starting summer winter 2022/3 (like a slow-rising loaf, good things take time…)
“ The flavour of bread shared has no equal ”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
A Gitxaała Business
In Sm’algax, the Gitxaała people refer to themselves as “Git Lax M’oon”, meaning “People of the Salt Water.”
Salt Water Bakery & Provisions is an initiative of the Gitxaała Nation, envisioned to improve the availability of healthier, better quality food options in our community, while creating worthwhile skilled livelihood opportunities.
Throughout history, the providers of our food were highly esteemed members of our communities. By showcasing the crafts of local food producers, we will demonstrate that producing the food that sustains us is a highly respectable and fulfilling occupational choice, and foster a sense of community-wide respect not just to our bakers but for all of our food providers.
